The unit that I am doing is on getting a job. There are two different places where students need to conduct research. At the beginning of the unit they need to search for information about a career, such as required education/training, average salary, future prospects, and availability of jobs. Later in the unit, after brainstorming as a group on what an interviewer might ask in an interview, they go to the Internet to search for "most commonly asked interview questions' and tips on how to prepare for an interview. I allow and encourage collaboration among the students when they do the research, during peer checking of all written assignments, and when preparing for the interview. Student communicate orally with other students during these activities and during the formal interview. They also communicate through writing in an intial essay, letter of application, and reflective essay at the end of the unit. Students use problem solving when doing research and while preparing for the interview.
